The clothing they sell for young girls and even girls my age ( am in my early 20s) are a little sexualized ,like why do you think teens have to show their body to appear confident (?) Why is fashion not abt a person's style ( that they find within their comfort level), and just abt how much skin you can show like , if youre an adult and u want to dress in a not so modest way yes u can but teens ?? I feel bad that theyre being pressured too believe that the more skin they show the more prettier they are

I deleted every social media app except UA-cam bc I cant take it anymore lol. Ima be a UA-cam baby til I die, but everything else can gooooo. Im 28, I’ve been on the internet since I was 14 and back then it was funnnnn. Celebrities were celebrities, normal ppl were normal ppl.. it’s so different now lol. I use to drive myself crazy comparing myself to other ppl.

One thing I also realized was that, if we didn’t have fast food workers, we wouldn’t have Fast Food. If we didn’t have Walmart workers, we wouldn’t have Walmart. Simple jobs like that makes a difference in our lives. We all work at some point in our lives and our lives are not just attached to the jobs we work as if they bring most or almost all of the meaning to our lives.

I like to remind myself that God chooses average people to do his work. A lot of people in the Bible were just average citizens doing their best to get by, and God used them for His glory and those individuals had purpose in their lives.

this isn’t a new phenomenon. tons of rock songs were glamorizing picking up 16 year old girls since like the 50s. also, when i was growing up (as a millenial) lots of girls in my grade 7 and 8 classes dressed WAY older than their age. like wearing victoria’s secret and g-strings and having boyfriends in their 20s. its always been weird.

Personally I think that a lot of people finding you to stand out or be attractive comes from having a collection of very unique features that make you fascinating. Like I myself have really narrow lips, freckles, a curved nose and big bug green eyes but I get compliments, even though Tik tok pretty is big lips button nose and almond eyes. And I also definitely find other people who don’t fit society standards to be pretty because I find their faces fascinating, like the medieval painting rather than “iPhone face” trend

i think it’s very important to emphasize how this phenomenon is very common to black women specifically. they are less likely to be treated like people than white women, and white women already have plenty of issues in the industry. my understanding is that black women experience much more pressure to sexualize themselves because it is “the only way they will succeed”. in the rap world the only way women will receive lots of attention is via sexualizing themselves, not from their talent. one of my favorite rappers, lil simz, is ridiculously skilled, but does not sexualize herself in the way ice spice or sexy red do, which i believe is a huge factor as to why her music doesn’t receive the attention it deserves. no hate at all to women who do sexualize themselves, i just thought this was important to highlight.

Honestly I hate layering while exercising. Especially since I do mostly pilates/yoga, or HIIT (lots of jumping around) I don't like my baggy clothes getting in the way. Plus I HATE sweating more than I have to lol. But also I most definitely prefer exercising at home in my living space (much more peaceful, less time consuming compared to traveling to the gym). So because or these things I tend to exercise in leggings and sports bras. If it didn't draw attention in public I for sure would dress that way in the gym, cuz it's most comfortable for me, and I enjoy getting cute pieces.

I am 16 my mom forces me to wear things that will make me look "decent" when in public but it's so hard shopping for cute things especially for school and the summer. All the cute stuff are a bit revealing like crop tops and mini skirts. I think mini skirts/ dresses are actually cute I would put a pair of shorts under it. Swimsuit shopping I hate it. I'm not allowed to wear a 2 peice and every bottom is a thong or at least shows your butt. Now that I shop in the women's/juniors it becomes more difficult shopping

First, to answer the question. I think depending on the circumstances and the young woman, she could either want to or she could be pressured into portraying herself in a certain light. I also wanted to add that although this video is about young women, I have noticed that the same thing happens to young male entertainers as well. Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Usher, Justin Bieber, Ginuwine, Bobby Brown, just to name a few. They all started in the business at very young ages (before 18) and have become more and more blatantly $exual and vulgar in their lyrics and performances. I believe that's why the "industry" signs them on so young, to exploit their natural desire for $ex. They get them right when they're in the throes of puberty while they are just discovering their innate $exuality and drive for $ex, and their allowed to be rather reckless and overindulge in those desires. Hence, now you have a generation of young adults who can't stop shaking a$$ and singing/rapping about $ex. So it seems as though these natural desires when untamed become addictions. The industry can now profit off of the entertainers obsession with $ex because they'll keep making that kind of music, and of course $ex sells.

I’ve recently noticed just how low my pride in myself/my accomplishments are, because they’re not insanely above and beyond or the best ever in the whole world. I’m leaving my job to go to graduate school this fall, and whenever I tell someone at work why I’m leaving, they get excited and congratulate me on getting into grad school. To me, this isn’t even an accomplishment - it’s just whatever. When people tell me I’m beautiful or men approach me/hit on me, I just think that I’m not beautiful enough. I think part of this issue is that I just have low self-esteem (which I’m working on!!), so even my biggest accomplishments don’t mean much to me. For example, I did an honors thesis in undergrad, and instead of being proud of my research, I just thought that it should’ve been better. I’m planning on applying to PhD soon, and I wonder if I’ll even feel proud if I get into a program. My top choice school is very hard to get into (and I have realistic expectations, I know it’s a reach lol), and I think I’ll be proud if I get in there. But if I only get into the “lower tier” schools, I don’t know if I’ll even see it as an accomplishment. I think that instead of pride, I may just feel relief that I got in somewhere…because if I don’t get in anywhere, I know I’ll feel absolutely horrible. Honestly I blame the whole 'average looking' epidemic on social media. Seeing pretty girls with similar traits -eg. small noses, hourglass figures, flat stomachs etc - has made a lot of people feel like that's how everyone looks these days and that you can only ever be pretty if you have these ultra specific features because we are constantly bombarded by these videos and pictures due to beauty favouring algorithms on apps like TikTok. I see so many girls calling themselves average because they don't look like the girls on Instagram however if you really rounded up a bunch of randomly picked girls from the street, you'd see that 'average' is not so average at all and that these girls on social media are a TINY percentage of the worlds population. Social media really knows how to get to your insecurities so please don't let it!

Im an afro latina but I have a very indigenous face. I can see my mesoamerican ancestry all over my face. As a kid I was bullied because I looked different (not black enough but not Hispanic enough either) and hated how I looked. Im a bit older than you and can tell you that in my 30s I have grown to love my face and features, regardless of whatever standard I do and dont fit into. You get to decide what your standard of beauty is.

Average is bad. Don't be average You can't help how you look, but you can help almost everything else If you were born into unfortunate circumstances, you may not be able to change it now but you don't have to rush it. Take it one step at a time just don't settle
